 Nature-Based Learning for Lifelong Growth

Curriculum

Our curriculum blends academics, outdoor exploration, and hands-on activities to make learning engaging and meaningful.

  • Curriculum Highlights:

    • Guided by state standards (TEKS)

    • Blossom & Root Curriculum: Creative, nature-inspired learning

    • Wild Math & Wild Reading Curriculum: Outdoor-based academic foundations

    • Project based learning in both Science & Social Studies allow us to dive deeper into these subjects with a more hands-on experience

  • Outdoor Learning Spaces:

    • The Nature Trail: Explore seasonal changes, observe plants and wildlife, and harvest dewberries.

    • The Nature Classroom: Take academic lessons outdoors on beautiful days.

    • Gardening: Our garden provides us with many learning opportunities in growing from seed to harvest each season

  • Animal Care: Foster responsibility and empathy through hands-on interactions to include feeding & caring for goats, chickens, and rabbits. We also collect eggs and hatch chicks each spring, learning and monitoring development/growth along the way!

  • Playground & Sports Court: In between our academic lessons, we spend time learning and playing together on the playground & sports court. These multisensory opportunities provide perfect brain breaks and allows our students to get wiggles out and blood flowing in order to be optimally prepared for the next academic lesson!

Why It Works:

  • Flexible grouping in the classroom benefits students by allowing for tailored instruction based on individual needs, promoting collaboration with diverse peers, enhancing social-emotional development, and fostering a more inclusive learning environment where every student can access appropriate challenges and support

  • Access to the outdoors with lots of opportunities for body movement is shown to reduce stress, elevate emotional wellbeing, improve concentration, and increase discipline & resilience
